About the Artist –
Elder Kwang Hyuk Rhee

Elder Kwang Hyuk Rhee was a devoted Christian artist from Seoul, South Korea, whose life was dedicated to the Word of God. He spent more than 20 years creating extraordinary “Word Pictures,” a unique form of sacred art made entirely from handwritten Scripture.

Instead of using traditional drawing or painting techniques, he carefully wrote every letter by hand, using only the arrangement and density of the words to form detailed images of Jesus Christ and biblical scenes. There are no brush strokes—only the Word of God.

Some of his works contain over 100,000 handwritten letters, and one of his most remarkable pieces includes the entire New Testament, forming a powerful portrait of Christ. Another work, “Logos,” presents John 3:16 written in 1,234 languages, symbolizing that the Gospel is for all people around the world.

His life also carried a deep personal sorrow. During the Korean War, he was separated from his family, and his children and grandchildren remained in North Korea. He longed to see them again, but was unable to reach them. It is believed that his family was placed in one of the most difficult and restricted conditions under the North Korean regime. This separation remained a deep burden in his heart throughout his life.

While living in Seoul and later in Los Angeles, he devoted himself to children’s ministry. He believed that if children come to know Jesus Christ at a young age, they will remain in faith for a lifetime. Through the sale of his artwork, he supported and invested in children’s ministry with great passion.

It is deeply believed that his love for children’s ministry was also connected to his longing for his own children and grandchildren, whom he could not see again.

Elder Rhee devoted his life to this calling as an expression of faith and obedience to God. His desire was that these artworks would be used for God’s Kingdom—especially to support missions and children’s ministry.
